Why would anyone pay $25 for a manual toothbrush?

Wouldn’t it be too abrasive to use titanium bristles?

The ADA has a standardized test that measures the abrasivity of toothbrushes and toothpaste. Dr. Bruce Schemehorn, an authority on abrasivity at Indiana University, performed this test and compared it to nylon. The results of this study were that TiFinity tested out with no more abrasivity to hard tooth structure than a nylon toothbrush.

Does the TiFinity manual toothbrush remove plaque as well as my electric toothbrush?

Dentistry’s most respected research institution, Clinical Research Associates, conducted a study reported in their newsletter of July 1998. This study measured the plaque removal in a group of 48 patients who used six different toothbrushes, one manual, and five electric. The patients used the same testbrush for six weeks, then took two weeks off, then rotated to the next device. Plaque scores were taken for each device at the end of five to six weeks. One device tested was the Sonicare®. The results were that none of the electric toothbrushes including the Sonicare® were more effective than the manual toothbrush in terms of plaque removal. Furthermore, we know that nylon brushes of any type dramatically drop off in performance as the bristles begin to splay. Is it safe to keep a brush for as long as the TiFinity™ will last?

Yes. The TiFinity™ bristle material repels water, thus does not induce bacteria growth like nylon. Also its super-elastic filaments rebound to their original position without deforming therefore do not collect food debris or bacteria as readily as nylon.

How long will the TiFinity™ toothbrush last?

This is determined by each individual's brushing habits. Have you seen or heard of individuals who seem to trash their toothbrush within a few days? Naturally a person with these brushing habits cannot expect to have a life expectancy as one who brushes normally. What we do know is that your TiFinity™ toothbrush will stay in brand new condition much longer than a nylon toothbrush. We recommend you replace your TiFinity™ toothbrush at least every six months.

Will this type of brush cause gum recession?

Most people have some areas of gingivitis which is the early stage of gum disease. As a result of plaque irritating and inflaming the gum tissue, swelling and inflammation may be present. The gum tissue often feels and appears to be spongy or puffy. The amazing cleaning qualities of this brush will penetrate under the gums and between the teeth much better. As a result you may experience bleeding initially from several days up to a few weeks. The puffy gums will become tight and healthy and thus may receed. Once the gums are tight against the bone, gum recession will cease.

How will I know when to throw my TiFinity™ toothbrush away and replace it?

We recommend you replace your TiFinity every 6 months. At some point, usually after 6 months, the bristles will begin to fail and fall out of the brush. Once this occurs, replace your TiFinity™ immediately. How do I keep this brush clean and sanitary?

A recent study conducted by Clinical Research Associates found that the most effective way to disinfect any toothbrush is to run it through a dishwasher.

Toothbrushes have been made out of nylon for generations. Why is there a need for change?

Nylon actually is a poor material for a toothbrush when you consider how fast it wears out rendering it ineffective as well as the unsanitary nature of the material.
